In this presentation, taking inspiration for its title from a famous essay by Jacques Monod, different views on Chance and Necessity of various biologists and influential popularisers of science will be discussed in the context of a current understanding of evolutionary processes, followed by reflection on how this might relate to Biblical views of divine action

Speaker Bio – Dr Neville Cobbe
Neville credits his parents and other family members for bringing him up to love our Lord from an early age, subsequently deepening his faith through various Christian outreach activities, studying genetics at Trinity College Dublin and molecular cell biology at the University of Edinburgh to then pursue a research career in biology before embarking on theological studies at Queen’s University Belfast through Union Theological College and now working at a university chaplaincy.
