Welcome to the Christians in Science online magazine! This is primarily a magazine written by students, for students, but we think that many other CiS members will appreciate it. This is a quarterly publication, with a new theme for every issue, and a £50 prize for the best student written article in each issue. Anyone can access the issue 1 for free, but for all others you will need a password - available to all CiS members. We'd love you to contribute to our next issue. Go to this page for details on how to contribute articles to the next issue. Non students are always welcome to contribute as guest authors. Ruth Bancewicz, Editor
This issue's articles look at some of the stories of amazing ideas that changed and shaped the world as we know it. Those ideas didn't appear from nowhere; they were developed and shaped by people with their own set of motivations and beliefs. As humans made in God's image we reflect his creativity in our work and research. Showing that to the world is something we can really get excited about!
The students have been working hard over the summer, researching and writing articles on well–known scientists whose faith affected the way they worked. We have some great articles, really digging in to how a scientists' faith affects what they do in the lab. They're not just the usual characters – there are a few surprises.
For the summer issue, we decided to hand over to the more "seasoned" CiS members, and ask them two questions on behalf of the students: 1. What did you do with your science degree, and 2. What difference did it make being a Christian? We have asked nine people with different career paths to share their stories, and hope you find them inspiring!
This time we chose ethics as the theme, and have interpreted it pretty broadly. We have articles looking at the general ethics of science in the lab, at biomedical issues, the environment, and sharing of resources globally.
The aim of this first FREE issue of the CiS magazine is to explore the interactions between science and Christianity and how this relationship is played out not just in ethics and academia, but also in the media, in books, films and on the web. |
